Environment

WHO benefits from our efforts?

With social responsibility at the forefront our decision making, Ameren considers the environmental impacts of our business. We firmly believe having a strong social responsibility framework is critical to our ability to build and maintain trust with stakeholders. Our efforts and commitment are paying off—to the benefit of many.

  • Customers benefit as Ameren continues its transition to cleaner energy in an affordable way while maintaining the reliability our customers expect. We’re part of an industry that requires thoughtful planning about our customers’ long-term energy needs and how to balance those needs and the needs of our environment.
  • Communities benefit as we continue to make substantial investments to improve air quality. We voluntarily agreed to install and operate ambient air quality monitoring systems to assist the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in assessing SO2 air quality at our Labadie and Rush Island energy centers. We’ve also installed activated carbon injection (ACI) silos at Labadie, Rush and Meramec energy centers to make the air cleaner and comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Mercury and Air Toxic Standards (MATS).
  • Nature and wildlife benefit as we support a wide range of programs in Missouri and Illinois that aim to protect, preserve and educate for future generations. The actions we’ve taken clearly demonstrate our commitment to being a good environmental steward.
Ameren releases a falcon.
The World Bird Sanctuary (WBS) safely rescues a red-tailed hawk at Ameren’s General Office Building (GOB) in St. Louis. As part of our Avian Protection Program, the WBS was called after the hawk repeatedly collided with the GOB windows while attempting to defend its territory. The hawk was safely released in a remote location.
