WHAT are we doing to demonstrate that?
Below are highlights since our 2015 CSR report.
CREATING VALUE BY INVESTING IN INFRASTRUCTURE
Utilities are among the nation’s most capital-intensive industries, and our projects support jobs and economic development. The strategic investments Ameren makes in regulated infrastructure—reliability upgrades, environmental enhancements and service improvements for homes and businesses—create value for customers and shareholders alike.
- In 2015 Ameren spent nearly $2 billion on capital upgrades to build infrastructure, repair equipment and install smarter technology.
- Ameren plans to invest $11.1 billion in regulated infrastructure from 2016-2020.*

UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF MODERN REGULATORY FRAMEWORKS
Ameren’s strategy is to invest in rate-regulated energy infrastructure which, when coupled with relentlessly improving operating performance and advocating for responsible energy policies, will deliver superior growth in shareholder and customer value. In particular, we continue to allocate significant amounts of capital to those businesses that are supported by modern, constructive regulatory frameworks.
MISSOURI
Missouri established its regulatory framework in 1913. It is one of only four states that has not updated its framework to support investment in a 21st century grid. An updated framework would allow Missouri’s electric utilities to make more frequent and significant investments to upgrade and replace aging infrastructure, while keeping rates affordable for customers and growth strong for shareholders.
ILLINOIS
In recent years (starting in 2011), Illinois has updated its regulatory framework to encourage electric and gas infrastructure investments. That’s why Ameren is investing more in grid modernization in this state. This is benefiting both customers and shareholders. The state of Illinois is rated No. 2 in the nation by the National Grid Modernization index for creating an environment that encourages investment.
